Tyrese Gibson's Reaction to Statements by His Former Spouse Samantha Lee Regarding Their Divorce
Tyrese Gibson has chosen to respond to recent comments made by his former wife, Samantha Lee, concerning their divorce. In an interview with the Hardly Initiated podcast streamed on October 16, Lee openly discussed the challenging nature of their divorce and the emotional turmoil she experienced during that time.
Lee acknowledged her emotional vulnerability during the divorce proceedings, admitting, "I was not in any position to make that decision; I was extremely emotionally intoxicated." She emphasized the importance of seeking wise counsel and cautioned against making impulsive decisions in moments of emotional distress, although she did not explicitly express regret over the divorce or delve into specific details of the events leading to it.
Furthermore, Lee revealed that she had underestimated the role of lawyers and the legal system in their divorce, suggesting that they tend to benefit when families face dissolution.
Surprisingly, in the podcast, Lee mentioned that she is open to reconciliation with Tyrese under specific circumstances. She recognized him as her daughter's father and stated, "If we were both going to show up and fight for it equally and sacrifice equally... then yes... no one wants a broken family."
However, Tyrese responded on Instagram just one day before the funeral of his late sister, Shonta, with a nearly 12-minute video. In this video, he implied that Lee's motives for her statements were driven by a desire for attention and online virality. He remarked, "Congratulations, you went viral again over something else that you said because you're trying to build up your YouTube page and get your followers up."
Tyrese also questioned Lee's motivations for their separation and criticized her for seeking child support. He pointed out, "You make $160,000 a year on your own," implying that seeking financial support for their child was unnecessary.
Tyrese claimed that Lee had hired three law firms, and his legal fees were mounting despite their prenuptial agreement. He accused her of attempting to challenge the prenup and labeled her as a "narcissist and sociopath."
In the video response, Tyrese disclosed that Lee had made previous efforts to reconcile, even though he had moved on to a new relationship with his girlfriend, Zelie Timothy. He wanted to clarify that his recent songs, "Love Transaction" and "Don't Think You Ever Loved Me," were not an expression of a desire for reconciliation but a means of artistic expression of his emotions.
In a lengthy caption accompanying his Instagram post, Tyrese conveyed the deep emotional impact of their relationship, stating, "You’ve been taking shots at me and Zelie for the last 2 1/2 years... you are desperate for fame; you’re trying to go viral on my back. I want you to leave me alone. This was never love. It was just a 'transaction.'"
Tyrese and Samantha Lee, who married in 2017 and welcomed their daughter Soraya in 2018, publicly announced their divorce in December 2020. Their exchange sheds light on the complexities and emotional challenges that can accompany the dissolution of a high-profile marriage.
