Royal Expert Reveals Prince William's Perspective on King Charles III's Reign as Temporary, Emphasizing His 'Heir Mode'
The ongoing tension between Prince William and Prince Harry is no secret, but royal expert Omid Scobie suggests that the Prince of Wales, King Charles III, is also at odds with his eldest son.
In snippets from his latest book, "Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival," and in an interview with London’s The Times on November 25, Scobie asserts that William, 41, is currently in "heir mode." According to Scobie, this mindset deepens the rift between William and his father, as William is keenly aware that Charles' reign is only temporary and is adjusting his actions accordingly.
Charles, 75, ascended to the throne following the death of Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96 in September 2022. While both William and Harry attended Charles' coronation in May, Scobie claims that the relationship between father and son has deteriorated over the first year of Charles' reign.
"It would have been nice to see them come together on certain projects, perhaps in the early years, to put on that united front, but they're all working in silos," remarked Scobie in his interview with The Times.
Contrary to other experts like Christopher Andersen, who believe that Charles and William have strengthened their bond in response to challenges from Harry and Meghan, Scobie insists that the two heirs are not on the same page. One significant point of contention is their approach to dealing with Harry.
During the explosive CBS interview in March 2021, Meghan and Harry claimed that a member of the royal family expressed concerns about the color of Archie's skin before his birth. Charles engaged in a conversation with the couple and reached an understanding that this incident would not be discussed in Harry's book or the Netflix docuseries. Scobie notes that Charles' willingness to address such issues contrasts sharply with William's avoidance of any conversation with his brother.
Scobie goes on to claim that William, whom he describes as "hot-headed," has become increasingly comfortable with the Palace's tactics and the courtiers who devise them. Allegedly, William has utilized his aides and allies in the U.K. press to portray a negative image of Harry over the years.
"What many people don't know, or have chosen not to report within our industry, is just how involved William has been in many of the things that have gone out about his own brother," Scobie alleges.
Previous excerpts from "Endgame" suggest that William is convinced Harry has been "brainwashed" by an "army of therapists," leading him to claim that he no longer recognizes his brother.
"Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival" is set for release on Tuesday, November 28.
